Joel Plys & partner will be donating their instruction time (normally 10 hours
= $2,500) to teach a
Balboa weekend workshop.
This will allow the winners to hold an affordable weekend of Balboa instruction
in their community and build a
strong base of Balboa dancers. Joel can work with a local instructor in
the community if it is the best option.
Contrary to popular belief, the amount donated
is not in the budget for the event in April.
All the money collected for BR Registration goes to the April BR event.
We truly donate that time and set the low price accordingly - typically around
$50 for a full weekend.
You will be asked on the registration form if you are interested in participating in The Rendezvous Raffle.
If you are part of a privileged
Balboa community (meaning you have plenty of instructors or established weekends
for Balboa)
you should consider not being in the Raffle so that those that truly need to
build their scene have a better chance of winning.
We will not keep anyone out of the Raffle, the decision to enter or not to enter
is yours.
Winners of the raffle agree to the following***:
1) Work with Joel & partner to create a
customized Balboa weekend*
We will do the workshop in a nearby
community if it makes more sense financially.
We will work with the actual winner
OR the normal promoters/organizers in the winners community
a) Book a facility for the workshops
b) Have proper sound equipment ready (PA System and microphones)
c) Provide accommodations for Joel
d) Joel will book flights and take care of their food
e) Joel will take care of registration tracking and finances
2) Work with Joel to promote the event as much as possible to ALL
LEVELS of dancers.
a) Distribute flyers
b) Involve all local instructors to attend and cross promote
c) Post on all local forums
d) Send emails to dance community

If the weekend is not able to
take place (for whatever reason) between June & February of the following
year,
the community forfeits the weekend of instruction time donated to them.
